Goals either side of half-time were enough for Perth Glory to get one step closer to winning the Premiers Plate at the expense of Adelaide United at Coopers Stadium.
Diego Castro’s deflected effort and an opportunistic finish by substitute, Andy Keogh saw the Glory extend their lead on top of the table to nine points.
The Spaniard had a fantastic chance moments before his opener as he squandered a brilliant opportunity to open the scoring after Paul Izzo directed his save from a Chris Ikonomidis shot right into his path.
However, he wasn’t going to let history repeat itself when his shot was deflected in off Scott Galloway to give the away side the lead ten minutes before the break.
Adelaide were spurned to life when Izzo made a fantastic reflex save on a Joel Chianese header but none were able to test the unfazed Liam Reddy between the sticks.
It wasn’t to be for Marco Kurz’s men as Perth continued to pile on the pressure and were rewarded when Keogh latched on to a shocking giveaway from Isaias to easy slot home his 13th goal of the campaign.
The loss for Adelaide means they are now only five points clear of seventh placed Newcastle who could very well close the gap to two points as they face the bottom placed Central Coast Mariners today.
They will look to end their five game win-less run when they travel to Gosford to face the Mariners in two weeks’ time after the international break while the Glory host the Melbourne Victory in a blockbuster clash on March 30.
