Paris Saint Germain (PSG) and Istanbul Basaksehir players have walked-off the pitch after an alleged racist remark by fourth official Sebastian Coltescu during their UEFA Champions League contest on Wednesday morning (AEDT).
The game was soon after abandoned as both teams left the pitch following the alleged slur.
Istanbul assistant coach Pierre Webo was shown a red card by referee Ovidiu Hategan with players from the club saying Coltescu had used the racial remark before Webo was sent off.
The former was incensed and demanded an explanation from Coltescu before substitute Demba Ba also confronted the fourth official saying: “why when you mention a black guy, you have to say ‘this black guy?’”
Head-coach Okan Buruk also told the fourth official “you are racist”.
PSG players Neymar and Kylian Mbappe also confronted the fourth official after the incident demanding an explanation.
UEFA released a statement saying the game will restart with a different fourth official.
“Following an alleged incident involving the fourth official, the match was temporarily suspended,” said UEFA said in a statement.
