The Women’s World Cup defending Champions USA have defeated the host nation France 2-1 in Paris.

USA’s Megan Rapinoe dazzled once again scoring two goals, one which came in the opening five minutes from a set piece.

Olympique Lyonnais’ captain Wendie Renard got one back in the 81st minute but the French weren’t able to overturn the deficit to see their progression through to the semi-finals.

Rapinoe is now equal top-goalscorer at the tournament on five, alongside her teammate Alex Morgan, England’s Ellen White and Australia’s Sam Kerr.

The U.S will face England on Wednesday at 5am AEST.
