Mats Hummels could make a shock return to Borussia Dortmund, after reports indicated the club had agreed a deal with Bayern Munich.

German tabloid Bild has stated that Hummels could re-join Dortmund on a three-year deal for a reported fee of €20 million plus performance-based add-ons.

Hummels joined Dortmund from Bayern in January 2008 on a one-year loan before signing a permanent deal the following season.

309 appearances and two Bundesliga titles later, Hummels re-joined Bayern Munich in 2016, where he won a further three titles.

The former German national team defender would be a handy addition for Lucien Favre’s side, who fell just three points short of winning the league last season.

On the other hand, Bayern would likely need to look to the market for centre-backs, after Jerome Boateng was reportedly told to find a new club this summer.
