A second-half Craig Goodwin goal was enough for Adelaide United to record an important victory while making it seven games without a win for the Western Sydney Wanderers at ANZ Stadium.

The Reds were fresh off losing to Sydney FC only days prior and were looking to get back on the winners list while Markus Babbel’s men coughed up a late two goal lead against the high-flying Perth Glory.

Adelaide made two changes with Michael Marrone and George Blackwood coming into the side at the expense of Ken Ilso and Ryan Strain.

Meanwhile, Western Sydney welcomed back Rashid Mahazi, Mathieu Cordier and Jashua Sotirio who replaced Keanu Baccus, Jordan O’Doherty and Nick Fitzgerald.

Marco Kurz’ men were rewarded for their early dominance when Goodwin’s run and subsequent pass found Vince Lia on the edge of the area whose shot ricocheted off the hands of Nicholas Suman into the back of the net.

Western Sydney fought their way back into the game and grew in confidence as the match wore on with Jashua Sotirio creating a couple chances before the half.

The second half saw Western Sydney continue to show signs of promise and it was finally paid off when Roly Bonevacia curled home a brilliant free-kick to tie the scores just after half-time.

However Adelaide hit back and within minutes Goodwin slammed home the winner to seal the points.

The win gives United a ten-point gap inside the top six before they face a huge task by travelling to Perth to face the Glory on Wednesday night.

For the Wanderers, they will continue to look for win number three when they take on Melbourne City on Tuesday night.
