Australia’s destiny is in their own hands after they came from behind to defeat Brazil overnight.

Trailing 2-0, the Matildas turned it on, snatching a goal prior to half-time before finding the net twice in the second half to win it 3-2.

The result puts Australia third in Group C, equal on points with Italy and Brazil who will play each other on matchday three.

A win against Jamaica in the final group game would ensure qualification to the round of 16 for Ante Milicic’s side.

Captain Sam Kerr spoke out against the ‘critics’ following the win.

“There were a lot of critics talking about us but we’re back. So suck on that,” she said.

“We don’t listen to the haters. Look at that performance to come back from the deep. You can see what it means to us.”

Kerr was ecstatic with the performance and believes her side are now back on track towards their ultimate goal.

“We were so disappointed after the first game. Brazil are a top-10 team so the reaction from the girls at half time, I love these girls. And we’re back in it.”

The Matildas face Jamaica on Wednesday at 5am (AEST).
