An Alex Brosque hat-trick has helped Sydney FC see off a ten-men Central Coast Mariners outfit at Jubilee Oval on Friday night.
Steve Corica’s men were made to work for it early when Connor Pain gave the away side the lead inside the opening sixteen minutes but a red-card to Kalifa Cisse only ten minutes after swinged the momentum back in the favour of the Sky Blues.
With the home-side beginning to regain the ascendancy, Brosque was able to tie the game with a nice flick at the near post before Adam Le Fondre slammed home his tenth goal of the season from the spot in what was a very contentious penalty decision.
Brosque soon after had his second before his third being the pick of the bunch with a wonderful chip over Ben Kennedy from outside the box putting the result beyond reach for Mike Mulvey’s charges.
After conceding four goals in sixteen minutes, Aiden O’Neill got on the end of a Matt Millar cross to give the Mariners some hope but Aaron Calver was on hand to seal the points for Sydney slamming home their fifth of the evening.
With this result, Sydney have recorded four wins in a row and now find themselves at the summit for the time being while the Mariners are still in search for their first win after eleven games this season.
Sydney will travel to Perth to face the Glory on Wednesday night at NIB Stadium in a top of the table clash. Central Coast will travel across the ditch to face the Phoenix next Saturday evening as they look to end their winless run.
