The FFA Cup quarter-finals begin tonight and there are two intriguing matches taking place.

The first sees NPL Victoria side Hume City take on the A-League’s Central Coast Mariners at ABD Stadium, in what will be a difficult encounter for the latter.

A tough 3-1 victory over Adelaide Olympic away from home propelled the Victorian side into this stage of the competition, and hosting this tie will give Hume City plenty of confidence.

Despite struggling in this tournament previously, the Mariners have defied expectations and their two victories leading up to this match show that they are an improved side.

This will be an entertaining clash and either side has the ability to get the job done.

The other battle to take place is an all A-League encounter between Adelaide United and Newcastle Jets at Coopers Stadium.

Both sides have appeared strongly so far in this competition and this could go down to the wire.

Adelaide defeated Melbourne Knights away from home 5-2 and beat Olympic FC 3-2 in Brisbane to reach the quarter-final.

Similarly, Newcastle came away with a 3-2 win against Melbourne Victory at AAMI Park, while they also smashed Edgeworth FC 5-1 at the Jack McLaughlan Oval.

These two will be tough to separate and with a place in the semi-finals on the line, this will be a tough and interesting contest.

We are now starting to get to the business end of the FFA Cup and things are starting to get even more fascinating.
