Australia’s U-17 Joey’s head coach Trevor Morgan has announced a squad of 30 for an upcoming camp in Canberra ahead of the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Brazil in October.
The camp will be held between 11th and 18th of July at the Australian Institute of Sport.
It will be crucial for Morgan to get the group of players in and assess where each individual is at. There are 20 players who hail from A-League clubs, four from NPL and six from overseas.
Melbourne City have the biggest representation with five players featured in the camp squad, Perth Glory have three as do Sydney FC while the overseas representation come from clubs in Spain, England, Croatia and Greece.
The Joey’s don’t know who they will face at the World Cup as of yet, the tournament draw will be held at FIFA headquarters in Switzerland where 24 countries will be drawn into six groups of four teams.
The last time the squad appeared at a FIFA U-17 World Cup was in Chile 2015 and despite being faced in the group of death alongside Mexico, Germany and Argentina, they made it into the round of 16.
Morgan will be aiming to match this or go one better at Brazil 2019.
