Manchester City are one game away from winning consecutive Premier League titles after defeating Leicester 1-0 overnight.

With just 20 minutes to play and the match locked at 0-0, up stepped Vincent Kompany with one of the goals of the season.

The Belgian managed to find space on the edge of the box before launching a rocket into the top corner.

According to the City captain, he made up his mind fairly quickly on whether to shoot or not.

“Today was a little bit of frustration because everyone was saying ‘don’t shoot’ and I could really hear it,” he said.

“I thought hold on a second, I’ve not come this far in my career for young players to tell me when I can take a shot or not and I just took it.”

It could be the goal that confirms City’s status as champions once again, given the unlikelihood of them dropping points at Brighton next week.

It comes 436 days after the Belgian’s last goal, when he found the net in City’s 3-0 win over Arsenal in the 2018 Carabao Cup final.

Ironically, it was Kompany who scored in a 1-0 victory against Manchester United in April 2012 to send City top of the table with two matches remaining.

If City are able to match Liverpool’s result next week, it will be the first time that a Premier League team has gone back-to-back since 2009, when Sir Alex Ferguson’s United side won three successive titles.
