The Western Melbourne Group have announced the club’s name and colours ahead of their inaugural A-League season.
The Victorian-based expansion consortium confirmed the club will be called Western United and will don the colours green and black.
The announcement comes days after the club announced the signing of Socceroo Josh Risdon and Greek international Panagiotis Kone, who will be the club’s first international marquee.
Western United was the clear favourite among the options put to fans which also included: Westside Pride, Western Melbourne Athletic and Western Melbourne Warriors.
It is believed green received overwhelming support from fans to be part of the club’s colours.
The club is yet to reveal who will coach but current Wellington Phoenix manager Mark Rudan has been heavily linked to the role.
