After an outstanding season in the National Youth League’s Conference A, Brisbane Roar have taken out the silverware defeating the defending champions, Western Sydney Wanderers, 3-1 at ANZ Stadium in the Grand Final.

Roar Youth were in the driving seat in the first half with Shannon Brady opening the scoring in the 22nd minute, followed by Daniel Leck’s stunning strike just within the 18 yard box shortly after.

The Wanderers had plenty of work to do heading into the second half but failed to capitalise.

Roar striker Mirza Muratovic added to their woes after he put a low shot into the bottom corner in the 61st minute, putting the team 3-0 up with the championship in their sights.

Wanderers defender Tass Mourdoukoutas provided a glimmer of hope for a comeback following a well converted shot from a corner, but in the end their performance was no match for Drew Sherman’s strong outfit.

The narrative ends with Roar making history –  bringing the National Youth League title to Brisbane for the first time.

With the Y-League done and dusted, all A-League academy teams will now focus on the upcoming NPL season.
