Former UEFA president Michel Platini has been questioned by police over his role in Qatar being awarded the rights to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Reports initially suggested that Platini had been arrested, however has since denied those claims.
A statement released on behalf of Platini ensured that he was taken under police custody for questioning only.
Michel Platini, after being heard in the same investigation in open court last year, is now questioned under police custody for technical reasons,” the statement read.
The decision to award Qatar the hosting rights has been under investigation since 2016 by the Parquet National Financier – France’s financial prosecutor’s office.
Qatar beat Australia, USA, Japan and Korea Republic to host football’s biggest tournament.
Platini is currently serving a four-year ban over a £1.35 million payment he received from former FIFA president Sepp Blatter.
The Frenchman hoped to return to football once the ban concludes in October this year, however that now looks unlikely.
