The A-League restart between Melbourne Victory and Western United will remain but four matches scheduled in Melbourne for August now have ‘pencil holds’ in NSW.
Aside from the two matches scheduled for July 16 and 20, no further games will be arranged in Melbourne for July, with Melbourne-based A-League sides potentially having to play away from home until late August.
‘’No further games will be scheduled in Melbourne for July 2020,’’ A-League boss Greg O’Rouke said.
‘’Four games that were scheduled in Melbourne for August 2020 have now got pencil holds in NSW venues.
‘’50 per cent of A-League games do not involve Melbourne teams. The finals series remains scheduled date wise and we have a watching brief.’’
This comes following a spike of cases in Victoria with 75 new cases recorded on Monday – an increase of 26 from Sunday.
Meanwhile, the Queensland government announced its sporting clubs must quarantine for 14 days if they play in Melbourne, against a Melbourne side or against a team who has been in Melbourne in the preceding two weeks.
Brisbane Roar will be required to enter the NSW hub following its restart to the season against Adelaide United in Queensland and prior to its second match on July 28.
The Roar will head into those matches without head coach Robbie Fowler who has cut ties with the club.
The side will be managed in the interim by Darren Davies and former Lions FC and Roar academy coach Warren Moon.
The season will restart on July 16 between Melbourne Victory and Western United, with Sydney FC taking on the Wellington Phoenix at Jubilee Stadium the following day.
