The FFA Cup quarter-finals conclude tonight and the two remaining spots in the semi-finals will be decided.
The first is an all A-League clash between Melbourne City and Western Sydney Wanderers at AAMI Park, in what will be a close contest between two clubs that have had strong pre-seasons.
Melbourne City have got the job done in their previous two encounters in this season’s competition, with a 3-1 victory against Campbelltown City and a 2-1 win over Marconi Stallions both coming away from home.
Likewise, Western Sydney Wanderers have had a strong start to the FFA Cup, with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Perth Glory in Western Australia and an impressive 7-1 victory against Sydney United their two competitive hit outs in the lead up to tonight’s match.
Both clubs have recruited well over the pre-season and this contest looks to be too hard to split, with the prospect of extra time being a big chance.
The other match to take place tonight sees NPL Queensland club Brisbane Strikers host NPL2 West Victoria side Moreland Zebras at Perry Park.
The home team defeated Wellington Phoenix and Manly United to reach this stage of the competition, while the Zebras overcame Bulleen Lions and Magpies Crusaders.
A win for the Strikers will give them the opportunity to host an A-League side in the semi-final, while the same can occur for the Zebras should they get the job done.
It would be even more impressive for the Victorian club, as they have taken part in Victoria’s second tier this season.
The Strikers may come into the match as favourites, however do not discount the Zebras, who have done well so far in the competition.
The draw for the semi-finals will take place at the conclusion of tonight’s action, with Adelaide United and Central Coast Mariners winning their matches last night.
