Paris Saint-Germain are set to win the race for highly-rated defender Matthijs de Ligt, according to reports.

De Ligt has been linked to some of Europe’s biggest clubs including Juventus and Manchester United, as well as Barcelona who were thought to be the favourites to win his signature.

PSG now look like the most likely destination for the 19-year-old Dutchman after talks with Barcelona have slowed in the last few weeks.

It is believed the French club have offered significantly higher wages to secure the services of De Ligt.

De Ligt has previously stated that money does not bother him and he wants to pick the right club based on footballing reasons.

“Money is not the problem. “The most important thing is knowing in the team where you go you will have prominence and play many games,” he said.

De Ligt played an integral role for Ajax this season as they reached the UEFA Champions League semi-finals as well as claiming the Eredivisie title.
