A European giant made it seven straight, while two teams from Spain and Germany secured Champions League football for next season.

La Liga

Real Madrid ended the season on an incredibly sour note, going down 2-0 to Real Betis at the Bernabeu. Zinedine Zidane’s return to the club has been very underwhelming, having recorded just five wins in 11 games while suffering shock losses to Rayo Vallecano and Real Sociedad. The latest loss was extra disappointing for Gareth Bale who did not feature and has likely played his final game for the club.

The champions Barcelona travelled to Eibar to conclude their season but were held to a 2-2 draw. Lionel Messi scored a brace in between Eibar goals from Marc Cucurella and Pablo De Blasis. Barça finished the season 11 points clear of runner-up Atlético Madrid.

Recent stumbles to Schalke and Werder Bremen will certainly be on the players’ minds as they wonder what could have been.
