Manchester City confirmed their status as champions of England for the second straight year, while the Bundesliga title race heads into the final day of the season.

La Liga

Valencia will go into the final day as the most likely side to secure fourth spot after they took care of Alavés 3-1. Los Che trailed after 12 minutes but responded well with two goals in the first half before adding a third in the second half. They sit in fourth spot with a road trip to Valladolid to come.

Getafe travelled to Barcelona hoping to pull off a miracle, but unfortunately for them the Blaugrana were too clinical. Arturo Vidal opened the scoring before a Mauro Arambarri own goal sealed the three points. Getafe face Villarreal at home next week while Barça travel to Eibar.

Sevilla could only muster a point against Atlético Madrid and will have it all to do on the final day. Pablo Sarabia cancelled out Koke’s opener, meaning Sevilla will have to defeat Athletic Bilbao at home next week while relying on Valencia and Getafe to both lose.

Frankfurt have dropped out of the top four at the expense of Mönchengladbach, as they went down 2-0 at home to Mainz. Perhaps still feeling the sting of their Europa League loss to Chelsea, Adi Hütter’s side put in a disappointing performance which will likely cost them a place in next season’s Champions League.

Ligue 1

Lyon have taken a giant leap towards a top three finish with an impressive 3-0 win away to Marseille. Maxwel Cornet broke the deadlock in the 24th minute before two late goals in two minutes sent Lyon four points clear in third.

They were gone, then they were safe, and now they might be gone again. Monaco have lost 1-0 to Nîmes to set up a relegation scrap for the remaining two games. The principality club are on equal points with Caen who currently occupy the relegation play-off spot and have games against Amiens and Nice to see out the season. If Monaco do go down, they will be considered as one of the most talented squads in history to be relegated.

Paris Saint-Germain’s horror last few weeks have been slightly rectified with a 2-1 win over Angers. Neymar and Angel Di Maria each found the net to put PSG two goals ahead – ultimately enough to see out a gallant Angers side.
