Adelaide United have defeated the Newcastle Jets 2-1 courtesy of a stoppage time Craig Goodwin penalty which sees the Reds climb to fourth.
Coming into this match both sides had the chance to leave McDonald Jones stadium with consecutive wins for the first time this season and rectify their ordinary start to the campaign.
Adelaide’s best performances have been away from home this season and they continued this trend. New found hero Nikola Mileusnic opened the scoring, following up on a Ben Halloran attempt which hit the post to score his third goal in two games.
The Jets thought they had hit back soon after but were rightfully denied by the VAR which identified Roy O’Donovan as being offside in the lead up.
Though the home fans did not have to wait long to get their goal as Roy O’Donovan equalised soon after with his first goal of the new season.
As the end of the match approached it appeared the spoils would be shared but stoppage time drama ensured this was not to be the case.
Newcastle local and veteran Nigel Boogaard was unable to stop Ryan Kitto entering the box and brought the Adelaide United forward down, giving the referee no option but to point to the spot.
Craig Goodwin stepped up and as he has often done this season for the Reds he scored and won the game, claiming a significant three points away from home.
Adelaide will look to take this form back home when they face the in-form Wellington Phoenix next week while the Jets will have another chance at victory when they host the Brisbane Roar on Wednesday.
